It's quite an alright book. The mood is definitely darker and *cough* more mature, the humor is quite different from any other fantasy I can recall having read. The approach on science does intrigue me though, scholars and wizards really are quite enlightened about various subjects. Never mind me... Go read! ;)

Guess which game won the IGN's Best RPG for PC E3 2007 award? There's an editorial comment stating that Fallout 3 would've snagged the award if it was there but The Witcher was also put on a runner-up list for Best PC title, and that's gotta count for something.

You should also check out the (not so) new screenshots, if You haven't already.

On a different note, I so need to upgrade my PC :(.

Gameplay Demo from August 30th. It is sweet! :)

Metal band VADER made a song and music video called Sword of the Witcher.

And oh yeah, the current release date (UK) is supposed to be October 26th. Can't wait... :D

It's true, look for yourself!

How many of us have a PC that meets the recommended specs? Eh? Eh? I can't help but laugh at the fact Vista requires 50% more RAM to run The Witcher at minimum specs!

Also, there's a new gameplay video up on GameSpot.

THERE IS NO GOOD, NO EVIL - ONLY DECISIONS AND CONSEQUENCES

Postby Mythinite on Tue Nov 06, 2007 3:17 pm

I'm playing this! Are you?

It's full of blood, gore, violence, sex, drugs... It's rated 18+ in Europe, and every teenage boy's dream come true. Not that I'm a teenage boy...

It's action and roleplaying. It's Oblivion meets Neverwinter Nights (sort of, but sounds intriguing right?).

The graphics have spoken for themselves in various gameplay videos already. Controls are simple yet they still require timing and coordination (read: skill). Story, immersion and environment is absolutely excellent. Heck, I managed to jump in my seat when surprised by some monsters in a sewer the other night. I don't recall any games having done that to me in a long time.

I highly recommend The Witcher, for those of you who have a system capable of running it!

Critics say: "you don't have enough freedom!"

I say: "A good book doesn't require freedom"

Critics say: "The combat system isn't that innovative!"

I say: "The combat system works and battles are a real pleasure to look at"

Critics say: "Boooorrrrred after 1 hour"

I say: "Stay away if you don't like RPG's or fantasy!"

This is the real thing. A game which you start, and easily play for 6 consequent hours without even thinking of a break. And you'll only have played through 1 chapter then!
Admittedly, the game has its flaws. The constant loading between areas and during saving are really annoying, and some conversations have minor errata in them.
Don't let that put you off however. Think Kotor goodness, and you know you'll need to get this.
I recommend it for all RPG fans.

9/10 and GOTY for me (yes, I rate this ABOVE HL2:Ep2 and portal)

*sigh*

*loads up Civ3 on his gf's shitty old machine*

Have fun you gits!

The only consolation, and it's admittedly clutching at straws, is that it will be patched up a wee bit more when I do finally get my sweaty hands on it.

the german newsletter pcgames recently published a statement of the studio,
that created "The Witcher", that they are working on a trial version as well as
on a mod-editor to encourage the international modding scene.
(accidentially deleted the the newsletter, so, no source for now)

Just buy it and jump right in? That is, if your PC meets the specs 'cause otherwise it'll be futile, trial or no trial...

It is available for less than 300 kroner including delivery, hardly a fortune.

Heck, I'd lend you mine but... Well... It's mine! My own! My precious!
